Privacy
Data collected: when you create an account, we keep your email address, an account identifier, and the game data needed to run the service (progression, inventory, connection history). If you use the in-game chat, we also keep your messages, as described in the “In-game chat” paragraph.
Retention period: your data is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete it, your game data — progression, ships, inventory, guilds, chat messages — is erased immediately and permanently, with the sole exception of messages covered by a pending report (“In-game chat” paragraph); the account itself, including your email address, is kept for a further thirty days so that a dispute remains investigable, then erased in turn. Email verification and password reset tokens are erased twenty-four hours after they expire or are used.
Backups: the database is backed up daily and those backups are kept for thirty days before being overwritten in rotation. Erased data may therefore survive in them until that point; it is never reintroduced into the service, a restore serving only to recover from an incident.
In-game chat: every message you send is kept for thirty days with its time, your username, the channel and, for a private message, its recipient, then erased; it may survive for up to thirty more days in backups. The messages you wrote and the private messages you received are included in the copy of your data. Nobody reads conversations except the moderator — the game's publisher, alone — when a player reports a message: the moderator then sees that message and those the two players exchanged in the ten minutes around it. These messages are kept until the report is handled, then for thirty days. If one of the two accounts is deleted, a report already handled is erased with it; a pending report is kept until it is handled, then erased within the hour. A muted player sees the reason and the duration of the measure; a mute is kept for thirty days after it ends. The players you block stay blocked for as long as your account exists. Please note: during the alpha, messages, private ones included, travel unencrypted between your game and our servers; never write anything confidential in them, such as a password or contact details.
Your rights: you can obtain a complete copy of your data from your account at any time, and request its deletion in the same place — deletion is immediate and permanent, subject only to the pending-report exception described in the “In-game chat” paragraph. To have your data corrected, or for any other request, write to support@afterlife-game.com.
Minimum age: creating an account is restricted to people aged fifteen or over. Below that age, processing your data requires the consent of whoever holds parental authority (GDPR article 8, set at fifteen years in France).
Complaints: if you believe your rights are not being respected, you may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL), 3 place de Fontenoy, 75007 Paris (www.cnil.fr).
