Cookies and trackers

English translation of the French version 0.9.
Version 0.9 of 14 October 2026, during the Alpha.
The essentials
- The site sets no cookie and uses no tracker: there is nothing to accept or refuse, and therefore no banner.
- The launcher and the game keep on your computer what they need to work. The game engine, Unity, has also kept there, for its own statistics, an installation identifier and usage data: they do not serve the game (article 3.4).
- The game engine still sends statistics about your hardware: we will turn them off, or ask for your consent (article 3.4).
1. What the law calls a tracker
1.1 A tracker is any operation that reads information already stored on your device, or writes information to it: a cookie, browser storage, a file, the registry, a device identifier (French Act no. 78-17 of 6 January 1978, article 82). It requires your consent, unless it is strictly necessary for the service you request.
2. The site
2.1 The site sets no cookie, writes nothing to your browser's storage, does not measure its audience and shows no advertising. All its resources — pages, images, fonts, scripts — come from our servers: no third-party content is loaded, and our content security policy forbids the browser to do so.
2.2 The site's animated backdrop reads what it needs to display itself — the size of your screen, what your graphics card allows, your preference for reduced motion, and whether your browser is driven by a program —, without keeping or sending anything.
2.3 Our web servers record in their access logs your IP address, the time, the address requested, your browser and the page you come from. This record only serves to run and protect the site: the law does not require your consent for it; our privacy policy says how it is used and for how long (article 2.11).
2.4 Links to other sites — Discord, PayPal, Buy Me a Coffee — take you to them, where their own cookies and trackers apply, under their policies. Our links to these sites carry no identifier that would let anyone follow you, and do not tell them which page you come from.
3. The launcher and the game
3.1 The launcher and the game write on your computer what is strictly necessary to provide you with the game you asked for: the law does not require your consent for this. What the game engine adds there for its own statistics is not part of it (article 3.4).
| What is kept | Why |
|---|---|
| your login session, encrypted by Windows (the launcher) | to keep you logged in |
| your last login address, encrypted by Windows (the launcher) | to pre-fill the login screen; erased when you log out |
| your choice of language (the launcher, also read by the game) | to show the launcher and the game in your language |
| the record of your acceptance of our texts: their version, their fingerprint, the date, the time and, since launcher 1.0.11, the language (the launcher) | to show you our texts only once per version |
| the installed game, its version and its fingerprint (the launcher) | to install and update the game, and check it has not been modified |
| a log, stripped of sensitive information (the launcher) | to understand an error |
| your game session, encrypted (the game) | to reopen your session |
| your pseudonym, your faction, your ship, your sector, your keys and display settings, the tutorial step (the game) | to restore your state and your settings |
| your ship's path (the game) | to draw the map; never sent, nor erased with your account |
| the game's logs (the game) | to understand an error; they only reach us if you attach them to a message |
3.2 Up to version 0.4.32, the game also reads an identifier of your computer, provided by its engine, to build the key that encrypts your session: this identifier never leaves your computer. Later versions leave this encryption to Windows.
3.3 When the launcher crashes, it keeps a report, and sends it to us at your next login (our privacy policy, article 5.2).
3.4 The Unity engine: the versions of the game published up to 0.4.28 sent engine diagnostics to Unity Technologies; they have been turned off since 0.4.29. The versions published to date still send Unity statistics about your computer's hardware. For these transmissions, the engine has kept on your computer, in the game's registry key, an installation identifier and session counters (unity.cloud_userid, unity.player_sessionid, unity.player_session_count) and, in the game's folder, events waiting to be sent (Analytics, Insights). None of this serves the game, and your consent was not asked: we will turn these transmissions off in a future version or, if that is not possible, we will ask for your consent before anything is sent. You can erase this data yourself (article 3.5).
3.5 To erase everything from your computer: in the launcher, log out or delete your account; then delete the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\NebulaLauncher\, the game's folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\DefaultCompany\Alho Proto\ and its registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DefaultCompany\Alho Proto (the working name of the game during the Alpha).
